Week 46 — The Power of the Featured Presentation

Week 46 · August 10–16, 2026

🎤 Education Moment Script (3–5 minutes)

Good morning, Our BNI Family! 🙌

Today I want to talk about one of the most underused referral tools in the entire BNI meeting: the Featured Presentation.

A Featured Presentation is not just more time to explain your business. It is your best chance to teach the room how to refer you with confidence. Used well, it can double the quality of referrals you receive because Members finally understand what to listen for.

🔹 Do Not Present Everything

The biggest mistake is trying to tell the whole story: every service, every credential, every possible client, every possible problem. That feels comprehensive, but it usually makes the room remember less.

A strong Featured Presentation is narrow on purpose. Choose one ideal client, one painful problem, one client story, and one clear referral ask.

🔹 The Referral-Ready Structure

  • Problem: describe the situation your ideal client is facing in plain language.
  • Proof: tell one short story that shows how you solved it.
  • Prompt: give the room exact words or signals to listen for this week.
  • Ask: name the specific person, business, role, or situation you want introduced to.

When Members know the problem, proof, prompt, and ask, they are no longer guessing. They are listening with a target.

🔹 Train the Connection Team

Our BNI Family is your Connection Team. But even a great Connection Team needs training. They need to know what a good referral sounds like, what a poor fit looks like, and how to open the conversation.

Use your Featured Presentation to give them language they can repeat. A clear sentence they can say to a prospect is more valuable than a slide full of services.

🔹 Your Challenge This Week

If your Featured Presentation is coming in the next 90 days, write the referral ask now. Build the presentation around that ask, not around your biography.

If someone else is presenting this week, listen like a referral partner. Take one note and look for one introduction. That is how we honor the Member in the spotlight. 💙 Spencer Reynolds

Hi [Chapter Name] Family! 👋
This week’s Education Moment focused on using the Featured Presentation to generate better referrals.
The Featured Presentation is not a longer commercial. It is a training opportunity for the room. The best structure is Problem, Proof, Prompt, and Ask so Members know exactly what to listen for.

To reinforce this (and get part of the way toward your 1-hour CEU), here are some great BNI Podcast episodes:
