Your Connection Team: How to Help Our BNI Family Refer You

🎤 Education Moment Script (3–5 minutes)

Good morning, Our BNI Family! 🙌

Every one of us joined BNI to grow our business. But here’s the big shift: Our BNI Family is not just a room we attend. It is our Connection Team.

And let’s be clear about what that means. Members in Our BNI Family are not your salespeople. They are not trained to present your offer, handle objections, or close business for you.

What they do brilliantly is connect people. They create warm, trusted introductions so you can step in and do what you do best.

If we want stronger referral results, we have to stop hoping people “figure us out” and start training our Connection Team how to make the right connection with confidence.

🔹 Your Connection Team Can’t Refer What It Doesn’t Understand

Most Members are not underperforming because they don’t care. They are underperforming because they are unclear.

If your Connection Team cannot answer these three questions in one sentence, referrals will stay inconsistent:

  1. Who is your ideal client right now?
  2. What problem are they actively experiencing?
  3. What do we listen for in a real conversation?

When your message is vague, Members hesitate. When Members hesitate, connections die before they start.

Your Weekly Presentation is not an update. It is field training for your Connection Team.

🔹 Train Your Connection Team Through Repetition, Not Randomness

Great referral marketing is repetitive by design. Your Connection Team needs to hear your message several times, in several ways, before it becomes usable.

Pick one campaign focus for 4–6 weeks. Repeat your ideal client profile and referral triggers with different stories and examples. This builds familiarity, and familiarity builds confidence.

If one week you ask for everyone and everything, and next week you shift direction again, your Connection Team cannot keep up. Consistency is not boring. Consistency is profitable.

A trained Connection Team can open doors for you when you’re not in the room. That is real leverage.

🔹 Equip Your Connection Team With Language They Can Borrow

Your Connection Team does not need a script that sounds robotic. They need short language they can naturally use.

Try this format in your next presentation:

  • “If you hear someone say ___, that’s a strong referral for me.”
  • “A great introduction for me sounds like ___.”
  • “The person I want to meet this month is ___.”

That gives Members confidence to open conversations without feeling pushy.

Also, give them one “not a fit” example. Clarity about non-ideal referrals is just as valuable as clarity about ideal ones.

🔹 A Quick Reminder / Why Your Connection Team Matters

When you train your Connection Team well, you stop carrying business growth alone. You multiply your reach through trusted relationships.

And remember the BNI magic: the referral is not a sales transaction. It is a warm, pre-qualified connection built on trust.

Your Connection Team starts the relationship. You, the professional, do the presenting, selling, and closing.

This week, treat your presentation like a connection enablement session. Be specific, be consistent, and give your Connection Team language they can use by lunch today.

The Members who build the strongest Connection Team inside BNI are the Members who stay simple, teach clearly, and repeat with purpose. Keep going. You are building something powerful together. 💙 Spencer Reynolds

Hi [Chapter Name] Family! 👋
This week’s Education Moment focused on Your Connection Team: How to Help Our BNI Family Refer You.
We looked at the difference between asking people to sell for us and equipping them to connect for us. When Members hear one clear ideal client, one real referral trigger, and one simple way to introduce us, referrals happen faster and with more confidence.

To reinforce this (and get part of the way toward your 1-hour CEU), here are some great BNI Podcast episodes (≈ 45–55 minutes total):
