🎤 Education Moment Script (3–5 minutes)
Good morning, Our BNI Family! 🙌
Most Members say they want more referrals. But many Members silently hold back from giving referrals because they’re afraid of getting it wrong. That hesitation is what I call the referral confidence gap.
If we want referral growth, we have to close that confidence gap for each other.
🔹 Why Members Hold Back
Members hold referrals for three common reasons:
- “I’m not sure this is exactly right.”
- “I don’t know how to introduce it cleanly.”
- “I’m afraid it reflects badly on me if it doesn’t work out.”
These are trust and clarity issues, not effort issues.
When someone is unclear about your expectations, they delay. When they delay, opportunities cool off.
Our job is to make referring us feel easy, safe, and accurate.
🔹 Build a Clear Referral Safety Net
You can boost confidence by giving Our BNI Family a simple process:
- Step 1: “Here’s what a strong referral looks like.”
- Step 2: “If unsure, ask me this one qualifying question.”
- Step 3: “Use this intro line to connect us.”
Now Our BNI Family has a path.
Also tell them what happens next. “Once introduced, I respond within 24 hours and keep you informed.” That accountability builds trust and removes fear.
People refer more when they know you will handle their relationship with care.
🔹 Celebrate Attempts, Not Just Outcomes
If we only celebrate closed business, Members become cautious. If we celebrate quality referral behavior, Members stay engaged.
When someone gives a thoughtful introduction that doesn’t close, thank them anyway. Publicly.
That sends a clear message: “In Our BNI Family, we value contribution and learning.”
Confidence grows where people feel safe to try.
You can still coach quality. Just coach it in a way that strengthens willingness, not fear.
🔹 A Quick Reminder / Why This Matters
A room with low confidence gives fewer referrals even when relationships are strong. A room with high confidence gives referrals faster, more often, and with better quality.
This week, make referring you easier. Share one qualifying question, one intro line, and one clear follow-up expectation.
The easier you make the process, the more Our BNI Family will act. And action is where referral momentum lives. Keep building that trust bank. 💙 Spencer Reynolds

Hi [Chapter Name] Family! 👋
This week’s Education Moment focused on The Referral Confidence Gap.
We talked about why Members sometimes hesitate even when they want to help, and how clarity removes that hesitation. The easier we make it for someone to recognize a fit, ask one good qualifying question, and make an introduction, the more referrals move.To reinforce this (and get part of the way toward your 1-hour CEU), here are some great BNI Podcast episodes (≈ 45–55 minutes total):
