#41 Death by Substitute

Good morning, BNI Tampa Family!

Today, let’s talk about a topic that’s crucial for maintaining our chapter’s dynamism and connection: the strategic use of substitutes.

Imagine this scenario:

You’ve built strong relationships within our chapter, but suddenly, you find yourself unable to attend a meeting.

What do you do?

You send a substitute, right?

Well, here’s the catch: while substitutes are fantastic for planned absences, relying on them too much can dilute your presence within the group.

Why does this matter?

Because BNI is all about visibility.

When you’re here, engaging with fellow members, you’re not just representing your business; you’re nurturing relationships and building trust. But when you’re absent, even with a substitute in your place, something vital is missing – you.

Think of it this way:

Substitutes are like understudies in a play. They can deliver the lines, but they can’t replicate your unique presence and the connections you’ve forged. And just like in theater, over-reliance on substitutes can lead to a loss of authenticity and connection.

So, what’s the solution?

First off, be strategic with your substitute use. Reserve them for planned absences and limit their frequency. Remember, you’re allowed a maximum of three substitutes in a rolling six-month period, in line with BNI policy.

Secondly, prepare your substitutes well. Give them ample notice, register them in the app, and provide them with a guide on what to say and how to represent your business. Prepare a weekly presentation for them to deliver and give them your Referrals & Testimonials as well. Ask them to take notes during the weekly presentations and share those notes with you after the meeting so you can continue to look for referrals for your Chapter Members. By doing so, you ensure that even when you’re away, your presence is still felt, and your commitment to the chapter remains strong.

Ultimately, substitutes are a fantastic tool for demonstrating your dedication to our BNI Tampa Family. But let’s use them wisely, ensuring that they complement rather than replace our active involvement. Together, let’s continue to uphold the spirit of BNI, where genuine connections thrive and opportunities abound.

Thank you for your attention, and let’s make today’s meeting one to remember!
