Education Moment Script (3–5 minutes)
Good morning, BNI Family! 🙌
This week we dive into Member Traffic Lights — understanding this report is essential because it tells you exactly how engaged you are, and where you need to focus to get more ROI from your BNI membership.
Why this matters:
Traffic Lights aren’t just numbers. They’re indicators. They reflect measurable actions you’ve taken — or haven’t taken — that drive referrals, credibility, and growth. When we interpret them right, they become a roadmap rather than a scoreboard. They really help our Chapter Leadership Team know who needs help, not something to be used in a negative way.
Key insights:
- What the colors mean: Grey / Red / Yellow / Green.
- Grey signals no activity or refusal to participate.
- Red signals low activity or missing key behaviors.
- Yellow is a warning: you have some activity, but gaps remain.
- Green means you’re doing what’s needed — attending, referring, doing 1-to-1s, etc.
- Components measured in Member Traffic Lights. Elements included:
- Attendance
- Referrals given
- One-to-One meetings
- CEUs/training
- Thank You For Closed Business
- Visitors
- Sponsoring
- How to interpret your results. Look for where you’re underperforming. If your Referrals Given is red, lean in there next. Don’t obsess over every color — focus on what moves your business forward.
- Use the report to set SMART goals. Example: “In the next 4 weeks, move Referrals from red to yellow by giving 2 per week.” Then monitor your next Traffic Light to see improvement.
- Traffic Lights = feedback, not punishment. This is about growth and clarity. Use it to guide your weekly priorities, not to judge yourself.
Our Member Traffic Lights are released each month on the 3rd business day and are delivered to every Member via email. Please watch your inbox for the report.
We have some updates to the Member Traffic Lights starting this month, our stats now include Sponsoring in the past 6 months for 5 points and changes in the weights on some of the activities. This is now a global standard for all Members everywhere around the world! Keep an eye on the BNI Weekly Newsletter for workshops if you want to dig in deeper and understand all the nuances of the reports!
Bottom line: When you understand your Traffic Light report, you no longer guess what to focus on — you know, and you act.
