Education Moment Script (3–5 minutes)
Good morning, BNI Family! 🙌
This week we’re talking about Substitutes Done Right, because when you can’t attend, the substitute you send carries your reputation in your absence.
Why this matters:
A substitute isn’t just filling a seat—they’re representing you. If your substitute is unprepared, uninformed, or doesn’t act with your credibility in mind, it can hurt your visibility, dilute your message, and send mixed signals about your professionalism.
Key points to reinforce:
- Substitutes count—but wisely. A substitute should genuinely represent your business, not simply show up. Over-using substitutes erodes credibility.
- Limit reuse of substitutes. The updated policy clarified that using the same substitute too often weakens the “freshness” of your seat. Use your substitute thoughtfully, not casually. And remember they can only visit twice!
- Use quality substitutes. Ideal substitutes: clients who know your work, past referral partners, or someone who’s briefed on your current goals. Someone who can speak meaningfully and share what you do.
- Clear communication up front. Before your substitute attends, brief them with:
- What to say in your 30-second Weekly Presentation
- One referral you’ve passed to share during Referrals & Testimonials
When you do this, your substitute becomes more than a stand-in—they become a real partner in keeping your visibility strong and your seat credible.
We have a great new PDF resource that I will send out to everyone via the WhatsApp group, along with 3 great podcasts to reinforce our learning!
