Membership Committee: Who They Are & How They Help

Good morning, BNI Family! 🙌

This week we’re shining the spotlight on one of the most important groups in every Chapter: the Membership Committee.

Why this matters:

The Membership Committee (MC) is the quality-control team for your Chapter. Their role is not to police—it’s to protect the value of your seat by making sure we maintain a strong, professional, and trusted group of Members.

What the Membership Committee does:

  • Reviews applications. They check references, qualifications, and whether the applicant fits an open seat. This ensures our Chapter brings in high-quality Members who will contribute.
  • Guides new Members. They oversee mentoring and onboarding, making sure new Members understand how to be successful in BNI.
  • Monitors participation. They track attendance, referrals, and CEUs to keep engagement strong and fair.
  • Handles challenges. If an issue arises—whether it’s attendance, ethics, or conflict—the MC addresses it with professionalism and care.

Why this benefits you:

A strong Membership Committee means you can be confident that:

  • Everyone in the Chapter is committed to showing up, giving, and following the system.
  • Visitors and new Members are vetted, so your time is spent with serious referral partners.
  • Issues don’t get ignored—they’re addressed quickly, so the Chapter remains healthy.

Bottom line: The Membership Committee exists to support you and ensure your Chapter remains a trusted, professional environment where referrals thrive.

Our Chapter Membership Committee: Today we want to make certain we all know the guidelines that we expect in our Chapter… This is where your MC, if they are not presenting the entire Education Moment, can tell the Chapter about plans to only renew Green & Yellow performing Members or what types of Managed Leaves will be allowed or any other expectations the MC has in your Chapter.
