The Power of Mentorship in BNI

Week 26 (March 24 – March 30, 2025)

Introduction

“Good morning, everyone! Today, we’re going to talk about the power of mentorship in BNI. Mentorship is an essential part of the BNI experience, especially for new Members. Having a mentor to guide you through the first months of membership helps build confidence, improve engagement, and ensures long-term success for both the individual and the Chapter.”

Body

“Mentorship doesn’t just benefit the mentee; it also strengthens the Chapter by creating more active and informed Members. Here are three ways to harness the power of mentorship in our Chapter:

1. Set clear expectations – When mentoring a new Member, start by explaining the basics of BNI, including the importance of One-to-Ones, referrals, and attendance. This ensures they understand how to get the most out of their membership.

2. Provide consistent support – Mentoring isn’t a one-time thing. Be available to answer questions, offer guidance, and help the mentee build strong relationships within the Chapter. Ongoing support keeps them engaged and motivated.

3. Lead by example – As a mentor, demonstrate the behaviors and practices that lead to success in BNI. Show how you generate referrals, contribute to the Chapter, and stay consistent in your participation.”

Example

“One of our Members took on the role of a mentor for a new Member who was feeling unsure about how to generate referrals. Through consistent support and guidance, the mentor helped the new Member understand how to effectively use One-to-Ones and build strong relationships. Within a few months, the new Member was actively contributing referrals and felt much more confident in their role.”

Conclusion

“Mentorship plays a vital role in the success of both individual Members and our Chapter as a whole. By setting clear expectations, offering consistent support, and leading by example, mentors can help new Members feel more connected and capable. Let’s continue to focus on mentoring to ensure the long-term success of our Chapter.”
