WIIFM: What’s In It for Me?

Week 1 (September 30 – October 6, 2024)

Introduction

“Good morning, everyone! Today, I want to talk about something we all think about sometimes: ‘What’s in it for me?’ Whether we’re inviting visitors or engaging Members, understanding this question helps us connect better with others and show the value BNI offers.”

Body

“When someone visits our Chapter or decides to stay as a Member, they do so because BNI provides value. That value might look different depending on the person, but it’s important to help them see how BNI fits into their goals. Here’s how we can better address the WIIFM factor:

1. Know your audience – When you’re inviting someone or working with a Member, think about what matters to them. Are they looking for more referrals, business education, or personal development?

2. Highlight their benefits – When you talk to them, focus on how BNI can help them. Instead of just saying how great BNI is, make it about how their business or personal growth will benefit.

3. Tailor your message – Every visitor or Member stays with BNI because they see a return on their time and investment. We need to make sure they know exactly how it will benefit them.”

Example

“For example, if you’re talking to a business owner who wants to expand their client base, focus on how BNI has helped similar businesses in our Chapter increase referrals. This makes it clear how BNI can be the solution to their problem.”

Conclusion

“WIIFM isn’t about what we get, but about what we can offer to others. By focusing on what visitors and Members will get out of BNI, we make sure they feel understood and see the true value of being part of our Chapter.”
