Think Faster – Speak Smarter

Week 14 (December 30, 2024 – January 5, 2025)

Introduction

“Good morning, everyone! Today, we’re going to focus on a skill that can make a big difference in how we present ourselves—thinking quickly and speaking effectively. Whether we’re in a meeting, giving a presentation, or talking to a potential referral partner, the ability to think on our feet and communicate clearly is essential.”

Body

“Here are three strategies to help us think faster and speak smarter, whether during our 30-second weekly presentations or in any business conversation:

1. Practice makes perfect – The more we practice speaking, the more comfortable and confident we become. Rehearse your weekly presentations or key messages so they come naturally when you need them.

2. Use frameworks – Having a mental framework, like the ‘problem-solution’ format, helps you structure your thoughts quickly. For example, start by identifying a common problem your clients face, and then explain how your service provides the solution.

3. Listen actively – One of the keys to thinking faster is truly listening to what the other person is saying. By focusing on their words, you can respond more thoughtfully and tailor your message to their needs.”

Example

“Let’s say you’re at a networking event, and someone asks, ‘What do you do?’ Instead of stumbling through a long explanation, quickly outline your response using a framework: ‘I help small businesses solve [this problem] by providing [this solution]. For example, one of my clients recently…’ This makes your response clear and memorable.”

Conclusion

“By practicing, using frameworks, and listening actively, we can improve how we communicate and build stronger connections. Let’s focus on thinking faster and speaking smarter in our interactions, whether in our Chapter meetings or out in the business world. It’s a skill that will help us all succeed!”
